5 minutes with… Hozan Edwards, Managing Director of BWB

In our blog we often talk about our people and how integral they are to the running of BWB and the high level of customer support we provide. We employ real experts in flame photometry to ensure they remain at the cutting edge year on year.

Therefore, we thought it was time to start getting to know who those individuals are, introducing you to specific team members and what their role at BWB is.

Launching with this article, we are starting our ‘five minutes with’ which poses a series of questions (some serious, some not so serious) to a member of the team. We are starting with… tap on your desk to produce drum roll noises here… our Managing Director, Hozan Edwards.

What is your role and how long have you been with the company?

I’m Managing Director and I’ve been with BWB for 12 years now.

What made you get into the industry?

I’ve always had a love for technology and mechanical engineering, this industry was a brilliant way to explore that.

What do you think is a big misconception about Flame Photometry?

I think the biggest myth is that it is an archaic and analogue technology. I think the work that BWB does proves that it is far from this. How our customers use the machine and the digital and modern technology we use in our products and the applications in which our instruments are used shows that there is absolutely a place for flame photometry in today’s world.

What do you think separates BWB from its competitors?

Our cutting-edge technology. We consider ourselves the market leader … perhaps with a slight bias but we don’t continually monitor and watch our competitors because we know our products stand head and shoulders above them. Instead we invest our time and resources in responding to customer feedback to develop even more superior instruments.

What do you do outside of work?

I support local charitable organisations and volunteer with young people, with a focus on outdoor environments and learning.

What is your favourite board game?

Anything that makes you think about strategy, if I had to choose I’d probably say ‘Ticket to Ride’, a railway themed game where you claim routes and destinations.

What is your favourite breakfast?

Tricky but I’d probably say full english, I could eat it every day if it weren’t for the exercise required to get away with doing that!

What would the name of your debut album be?

These questions have taken quite a turn since the beginning of this quiz! Nothing comes to mind… how about ‘the only easy day was yesterday’?

We think that sounds like a great album title! Not sure what genre of music it would be though…and it sounds like Hozan isn’t too concerned with that either, he’s just happy if he’s got a full English breakfast to eat!

Thank you to Hozan for taking part in the debut ‘Five minutes with’, keep an eye on our blog (subscribe here if you aren’t already) for future editions with other members of the BWB team.
